Gilpin, Limited, a biosafety consulting company that includes the GTS Legionella Water Testing Laboratory based in Gaithersburg, MD. He is a recognized expert on quantitative testing of Legionella species in warm water containing mechanical equipment. |

Gilpin, Ltd. is a consulting company involved with expert witness testimony, environmental microbiology (air sampling, fungi, and legionella), indoor air quality, laboratory and hospital safety, and research compliance in the areas of human subjects, animal research, material transfer agreements, shipping certification, invention disclosures, and research grant/contract reporting. |
Dr. Gilpin serves as Adjunct Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and previously Compliance Officer for the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute. |
Dr. Gilpin previously served as Biosafety Officer at the University of Maryland Baltimore and Biosafety Officer at the Johns Hopkins University and the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD. |
Dr. Gilpin was Assistant Professor of Medicine at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Environmental Health Sciences at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Gilpin was Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA where he conducted research and directed the second year medical school microbiology and immunology course for several years. |
Dr. Gilpin served as one of three R&D Managers at Becton Dickinson Diagnostic systems where his team of 17 staff supported 12 product lines. |
Dr. Gilpin is a basic/clinical/industrial research microbiologist with more than 30 years experience in research, product development and environmental health. |
Dr. Gilpin also teaches graduate students and pharmaceutical company personnel. |
Dr. Gilpin has co-directed for 22 years the internationally recognized biosafety course that started at The Johns Hopkins University in 1979 entitled Control of Biohazards. The course is given in April at The Johns Hopkins University Mt. Washington Conference Center in Baltimore, Maryland. |
Dr. Gilpin is a Registered Biological Safety Professional, a Certified Biological Safety Professional, a past Councilor (elected Officer), and past Chair of the Technical Resources Committee of the American Biological Safety Association (ABSA). Dr. Gilpin is a past president of the Chesapeake Area Biological Safety Association (ChABSA) and a 45 year member of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). |
