What makes this investment of time and money worth while?
This course has trained over 2,000 biosafety professionals in the USA and Middle East since 1979, so we know what we are doing. This course was started in 1979 by Dr Byron S Tepper at Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. This course was originally funded and sponsored by the Division of Safety, National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute. The original course lasted two-weeks. Since then, the week-long Control of Biohazards Course has been presented, often more than once a year, since the end of NIH funding in 1983. Although Dr. Tepper passed away in December 2015, the course continues.

BEFORE the course begins: Attendees receive 1,500 continuously updated (2019) pages of hyperlinked lecture source documents and slides.

What is unique and valuable about this opportunity?
Eight experienced academic, industry, and/or government biosafety professional faculty teach this course.
Some faculty write ABSA CBSP exam questions and/or worked on the CDC/NIH BMBL 6th Edition.

This course reflects the continued commitment by the course faculty to train biosafety officers, researchers, public health professionals, architects, and engineers. Attendees benefit by learning the history of biosafety and biosecurity in addition to learning current (2019) biosafety and biosecurity information.

Course director, Dr Richard W Gilpin RBP CBSP SM(NRCM), is an Author, Public Speaker, Trainer, and Former Medical School Faculty member. His activities include 15-years of continuously funded medical school bench microbiology research and 35-years of service as a professor-track level medical school faculty member at the Medical College of Pennsylvania (Drexel University College of Medicine), University of Maryland Baltimore School of Medicine, and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and School of Public Health.
His 33-years of biosafety experience includes Biosafety Division Director at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions (University & Hospital), Research Compliance Officer at the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute, Pharma/Biotech IBC Member, and R&D manager at Becton Dickinson Diagnostic Systems.

What will the information learned enable the attendee to do better in their job, organization, career?
This course covers biosafety and biosecurity information that can be templated to any research organization.
The course contains all information needed to pass the examination for certification as an ABSA International Certified Biological Safety Professional.
Earn 4 1/2 ABSA Credentialing Maintenance Points.
Earn 3 1/2 ABIH® Diplomate technical contact hours (CEU value).
